Nantucket in Winter

January 23, 2017

For Christmas, my dad and I surprised my mom with a few nights on Nantucket. None of us had ever been, despite living in New England forever and having been to Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard on several occasions.

I had a feeling I would love Nantucket and I was absolutely right. It was the quaintest little place, it almost didn't feel real.

I loved the time of year that we went (late December) because all the beautiful Christmas decorations were still up and we felt like we were the only ones there. It was nice to feel like we had the island to ourselves, especially because I get the idea that it's crazy in the summer months.

We stayed at a great little cottage in walking distance to town and loved that we could just walk everywhere we needed to.

The weather was pretty grey and chilly, but it didn't bother us. Just meant for more excuses to duck into coffeeshops! We loved The Bean and Handlebar Café.

Not a whole lot of restaurants were open, so we did a lot of eating back at our cottage, but we ate at LoLa 41 one afternoon which was very good. We also made it out to Downyflake Doughnuts, a Nantucket tradition.

My favorite little shop in town was Flowers on Chestnut.

We also ducked into the local bookshops – Nantucket Bookworks and Mitchell's Book Corner.

We walked from our cottage to Brant Point Lighthouse a couple of times.

Our two days on Nantucket were such a nice little break from reality. I can't wait to go back in the warmer months (the locals told us September is the best time to visit!) and explore more of the island.

Until next time, Nantucket!
