Dominican Republic Travel Diary

February 14, 2017

I recently went to the Dominican Republic for a J-term course in international marketing and business. We stayed in downtown Santo Domingo and made our way to some beaches on the southern side of the island. I fell in love with the country – it was so different from anywhere I'd ever been and it was eye opening to see such a distinct culture.

Some of my favorite parts of the trip...

The Zona Colonial in Santo Domingo

The palm trees and Caribbean coastline...

Wandering the replica 16th century Spanish village Altos de Chavon at Casa de Campo...

Our hotel in Santo Domingo which had the best rooftop pool, passionfruit mojitos, happy hour, and the most incredible staff!

The best little bakery around the corner (where I got my fix of tortilla espaƱola!)...

We also spent an afternoon with the sweet kids at Jackie's House, run by an incredible woman who adopted children who had been in particularly bad family situations or had been abandoned by their family altogether. The children were rays of light and it was so inspiring to see their happiness and joy for life despite their histories.

I made some amazing new friends and so thankful for such an incredible experience.
